I've been teaching California History since the year 2000, and I always dreaded the unit on the California Missions. That all changed when I decided to visit all twenty-one California Missions in the Summer of 2012. Now, the missions are one of my favorite things to teach! A great testament to the value of field trips! Unfortunately, I live and teach in the Central Valley, and most of the missions are in Southern California or too far away to take the school bus for a field trip. So I drove down to San Diego and, since the missions are only about a 30 minute drive along the El Camino Real apart, I visited 2-3 missions (and a few other historical sites) per day. I took about 4,000 photos of my trip to bring back to my class, and I am so excited to be able to share them with you here!
